2 Simple Ways to Calm Coughing with Ginger and Jin Shin Jyutsu

2 Simple ways to calm a cough are with Ginger and Jin Shin Jyutsu.  Recently I discovered a new and delicious form of ginger that retains all of its health benefits:  crystalized ginger with honey.  Simply open a packet, dissolve in hot water, and instantly you have ginger tea.  Add some lemon for a hint of citrus.

Researchers have pinpointed the compound in ginger that helps calm a cough is branched glucan (Bera et al, Phytotherapy Research, Jan., 2016).  Ginger tea and crystalized ginger both contain this compound and are effective.  And, ginger is famous for its anti-inflammatory which also helps in the healing process.  

From a Jin Shin Jyutsu perspective, Harmonizing SEL 10 aids symptoms like chest congestion, cough, and relieves stress in the throat.  

Right and Left Safety Energy Lock 10 are located on the back about in the middle of the inner edges of shoulder blades.

In JSJ we may harmonize a SEL by allowing energy to flow through another part of the body which supports a particular SEL.

3 ways to harmonize SEL 10, which aids chest congestion and cough, rest in any or all positions for at least 3 minutes, or until you notice an easing of symptoms

  • cross arms across chest and hold biceps lightly between finger and thumbs
  • hold the right index finger with left fingers lightly holding around index finger, left fingertips on palm side. (repeat with left index finger and right hand fingertips lightly holding.)
  • Cross right hand over chest, hold left bicep lightly between fingertips and thumb AND place left hand on inner right thigh

While holding these positions exhale fully, inhale slowly and sense any movement or pulse under your fingertips.   Allow any energetic movement to pulse, grow and subside as it will.  Continue until tensions begin to fall away and you feel an easing of cough.
